Russell Morden on Flute Summit.

My apologies for the lousy photo but the only camera I had was my blackberry and it had to do. Yes on saturday the 20th of March Russell decided it would be a good day to go up Flute and what a good idea that was. With Vera not feeling too well and waiting and watching from the bottom of the hill with her mom, we set out on the hike up. At the bottom of the climb I informed him that we would just take it slow and steady and have a nice leisurely walk up, so we could save our energy for the ski down. The problem was that he didn't listen and before I knew it he was pulling away from me and making up ground on some of the adults ahead of us. After I caught up we had a nice walk and discussed many subjects including politics, healthcare, religion and a little about skiing. In all seriousness I must say that he did not complain a single time throughout the hike, which is about as rare as seeing a 9 year old on top of Flute. After passing another couple of people, and only 20 minutes of hiking (it usually takes an adult 20 min or more to make it up) we put our skiis on, took pictures and then pushed our way across the cornice ridge and over to our descent route known as powder pig, with a variation into north Flute bowl. There was some fantastic snow and no wipeouts, just a little "hanging five" and lots of fun. Thanks for dragging me up there Russell and for showing the desire to do it again on sunday.( the weather didn't co-operate) Maybe next year your parents will do it!
